  • DVLA Personalised Registrations Step Closer to a Complete Sell Out Sale

    December 2, 2018

As DVLA Personalised Registrations prepares to celebrate its 30th anniversary year, the agency does so buoyed by another hugely successful 12 months which witnessed another impressive event when its final sale of 2018 came precariously close to recording its first complete sell out event.

Incredibly, all but two of the 1,250 lots on offer at The Haycock Hotel sold. Incredibly, such was the frenetic bidding, those in the auction room on both Thursday and Friday witnessed complete 100 per cent sales on both days.

“What an incredible way to bring 2018 to a close…” that was Jody Davies’ reaction upon hearing of the phenomenal sales success. As every year passes we go on record as saying the popularity of personalised registrations are as high as ever and 2018 reassured us that that is the case.”

Jody, DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Senior Sales Manager, added: “Obviously, one of our goals for any auction is to record a complete sell out, to be left with just two lots is mightily impressive and only confirms that we are again providing customers with exactly what they want.”

As predicted, the registration CEO 805S proved to be an early pace setter during the final live auction of 2018 when it fetched £16,000 but what wasn’t part of the script was the relative youthful look of the successful bidders who enlightened all in the Cambridgeshire auction hall with their energetic bidding. What also wasn’t part of the script was the success of 1 USD which came into focus as the sale drew to a close but, if anything, epitomised the relentless bidding. Despite the late stage of the sale, it changed hands for a £33,000 hammer price and in doing so became the event’s highest-selling personalised registration.

  • DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Boardroom Battle Looms as CEO Registration Set For Auction

    November 15, 2018

DVLA Personalised Registrations is serving up what could prove to be a boardroom battle during its final live auction of the year when the spotlight shines on the registration CEO 805S.

Reflecting the highly coveted Chief Executive Officer acronym, CEO 805S typifies the array of 1,250 personalised registrations aimed at all tastes and budgets being auctioned by the Agency over three consecutive days at The Haycock Hotel near Peterborough from Wednesday, November 21.

Those wanting to buy their loved ones a unique Christmas gift could do well to tune into the event which has been timed to ensure those successful bidders will receive their certification in time for the big day.

While CEO 805S, which has a reserve of £250, may catch the attention of established business ‘bosses’, Abba fans will also be vying for their own tribute act as A88 BBA (£250) is among the early lots being offered. As with every DVLA auction, there’s a whole host of personalised registrations related to popular names including EMM 45S (£300), CO17 EEN (£400), JOE 2S (£350), RH14 ANA (£400) and TE11 RRY (£400).

There’s a large breadth of personalised registrations directly correlating to sports cars including FER 182S (£250) which would perfectly sit on the latest Ferrari 812 Superfast while P911 HOT (£250) would be rather apt for a famed Porsche 911 and LAM 80W (£300) is aimed at Lamborghini owners. Morgan enthusiasts will be attracted to MOG 805S (£250).

Jody Davies, DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Senior Sales Manager, said: “There’s no doubting CEO 805S is a superb personalised registration for any Chief Executive Officer and we are confident it will generate interest from far and wide. That said, it is just one of 1,250 registrations hand selected to for all tastes for this final live auction of the year.

“Our research has revealed in the past that a large number of personalised registrations are bought as gifts and, with Christmas fast approaching, buying a personalised registration for a loved one could be a solution to that annual conundrum we all face as to what to buy a loved one.”

  • 200,000 Lots Sold And Rising…

    July 24, 2018

Such is the constant success of DVLA Personalised Registrations’ live auction programme it seems with every sale the Agency chalks up another major milestone.

And our Oxford Belfry summer event proved to be no exception as lot 167 – CO11 LES – became the agency’s 200,000th registration to fall under its gavel since its first auction in December 1989.

While there are numerous live and timed online auctions ahead of us, the next landmark event for the Agency will surely be its 30th anniversary in 2019.

Our summer sale again threw up some surprises. The registration 123 AP set the sale’s early pace by selling for a £28,500 hammer price during the first morning and was only surpassed by 27 O, the latest in the O-series which, as ever, proved to be as sought after and hotly contested as ever.

However, the real high-selling surprise of the sale came courtesy of TIG 1 which fell under our gavel for £27,000. The ‘top five’ table was completed by 8 SSK and 1 RRX which sold for £19,000 and £18,000 respectively.

Jody Davies, DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Senior Sales Manager, said: “Selling our 200,000th personalised registration is an incredible achievement, we listen to our customers and have evolved in line with their needs,  embracing new technology and sales platforms to make the auction experience a rewarding and memorable one.

Jody added: “Next year will see our 30th anniversary auction  and plans are already in place to make sure it’ll be one to remember with some really special editions and, if all goes to plan, it will be held here in Wales, close to us here at the DVLA in Swansea.”

  • DVLA Personalised Registrations Set to Chalk Up Major Milestone During Its Third Live Sale of 2018

    July 16, 2018

DVLA Personalised Registrations’ 200,000th personalised registration will go under the gavel when the Agency’s third live auction of 2018 gets underway at The Oxford Belfry Hotel this week.

Almost 29 years since the DVLA started auctioning personalised registrations, the latest landmark could well be achieved when lot 164 – 200 CM – goes under the hammer shortly after lunchtime on Wednesday, the first of the three-day event.

Despite the significance of being the 200,000th registration to be auctioned by the DVLA, 200 CM, which has a £2,200 reserve, will be just one of the 1,250 lots being offered including BR17 NEY (£700) – arguably one of the finest combinations that make up the girls name, popularised here on our shores 20 years ago by the American pop star Britney Spears.

DHH 110N and YDH 110N, which both have £250 reserves and clearly relate to the hugely popular Indian surname Dhillon, will also surely be hotly contested. Other popular registrations related to names include ELL 107D (£250), HA11 NNA (£400) and PA11 TSY (£400).

As ever, there’s a large breath of personalised registrations with direct correlations to sports cars including LAM 80D (£300) and MCL 650M (£250) which are clearly fitting for Lamborghini and McLaren owners while 62 SWB (£1,200) could entice owners of the fabulously expensive and extremely rare Short Wheel Base Ferraris built in the 1960’s.

Jody Davies, DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Senior Sales Manager, said: “Our first two live auctions of 2018 have proved hugely successful and, with the vast array being offered, I’m confident this week’s sale will be also.

“It’s incredible to think this sale will see our 200,000th lot sold at auction which is another astonishing milestone for the Agency and an incredible achievement, particularly as we ebb ever nearer to our 30th anniversary next year.”

  • The Scale In Which The Great British Motorist Truly Values Personalised Registrations Can Now Be Truly Revealed

The continued rise in popularity in personalised registrations can be truly measured following DVLA Personalised Registrations’ hugely successful spring sale held at Stratford Upon Avon earlier this month.

The three-day auction attracted 10,162 registered bidders – a staggering 107 per cent increase over the live DVLA Auction held at the venue in February 2012.  The most recent event raised a total sum including fees in excess of £5.2 million – a 40 per cent increase over the total amount raised in 2012 even though it featured 250 fewer lots offered six years ago.

In summary, the live DVLA Personalised Registrations three-day auction at the Stratford Manor Hotel in 2012 attracted 4,900 registered bidders and raised a total of £3.7 million for the Treasury.

Jody Davies, DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Senior Sales Manager, said: “While we have witnessed a continual rise in sales, our latest success at the Stratford Manor Hotel really puts into perspective just how the British motorist clearly loves and values them.

“In 2012 we celebrated yet another successful sale and had every cause to. But, as our statistics reveal, that success is dwarfed by today’s event. Their popularity has not only continued but has accelerated to a whole new level. It’s incredible to conceive now, but we are extremely close to recording our first 100 per cent sales conversion.”

She added: “Like all organisations we have continued to evolve and develop our services and improve our customer experience. We are finding our new and existing customers are able to access our auction services with far more confidence and ease which, in turn, is helping them to bid with complete confidence.”

The personalised registration 1 SVR proved to be the highest-priced personalised registration last week, fetching £45,000 at the gavel – a total sum including fees to £58,400 – and was bought by a Birmingham-based businessman.  In comparison, in 2012 a mystery buyer bought DH11 LON for a total price just shy of £80,000.

  • DVLA Spring Auction Serves Up Some Gems for Supercar Drivers

    May 14, 2018

DVLA Personalised Registrations will be auctioning what must be the ultimate personalised registration for owners of Jaguar Land Rover’s range-topping Special Vehicle Racing models badged SVR.

The agency is selling the registration 1 SVR ironically a short distance from the iconic manufacturers’ Warwickshire home with the second live three day auction of the year being held at the Stratford Manor Hotel near Stratford-on-Avon.

The registration – which of course is also suitable to anyone sporting the initials SVR – is among 1,250 on offer to suit all tastes and budgets during the three days commencing on Wednesday, May 16.

With 1 SVR (reserve £2,400) likely to be of interest to Jaguar or Range Rover SVR owners – where new models range from £100,000 each – as ever with a DVLA Personalised Registrations auction, there’s a whole raft of lots suited to supercars like LAM 80B (£300) for the Lamborghini drivers, 991 GTS (£1,200) for Porsche drivers and A488 GTO (£250) for owners of the special Ferrari model.

For those looking for a specific ‘name’ related registration, there’s a whole host on offer including RO18 ERT (£400), ELL107G (£250), DOR 15E (£400) and F41 THE (£250). For tradesmen there’s VO17 AGE (£400) that is clearly ideal for an electrician and 1 LGV (£2,400) for haulage drivers and for fans of a certain football team bearing the United-tag, the DVLA is auctioning    UN17 TED (£400).

Those looking for the quirky, fun-related, registrations there are many such as OW11 ZAT (£400), for the keen cricketer or BAR 31E (£300) for fans of a certain cult toy doll!

Jody Davies, DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Senior Sales Manager, said: “Our single one digit three-letter registrations always prove hugely popular but, there’s no denying, 1 SVR will have an added draw caused by Jaguar Land Rovers’ Special Vehicle Racing models. Putting its value into context, in 2016 we auctioned 1 SUV which attracted bids from Sports Utility Vehicle owners for £46,200.

“While 1 SVR will undoubtedly be a star lot, as ever we have worked tirelessly to ensure there are personalised registrations available to suit all tastes and budgets. Our first live auction of 2018 held in February proved another huge success, I am confident this one will be equally popular.”
